Cara grew up in Elizabethtown, KY and started running high school cross country at the age of 9. In high school, she won several state titles and was recruited by Western Kentucky University. During Cara’s NCAA Division I career she held 2 school records, won 5 Sun Belt Conference Individual Titles and two consecutive years she qualified for the NCAA Division I Regional 1500 meter Championships. Cara’s Collegiate times in the 800m, 1500m, and 3K still rank in the top 5 all time in WKU history. During Cara’s time at WKU she performed run gait video analysis for WKU NCAA Division I track and field athletes and has continued doing run gait video analysis in her Physical Therapy practice.
After college, Cara attended Physical Therapy school to receive her Doctorate at the University of Kentucky. She graduated in 2009 and now has 7+ years’ experience specializing in Orthopedics and Sports Physical Therapy. Cara regularly treats patients who are runners and triathletes at Louisville Strength & Endurance.
Upon moving to Louisville, Cara joined a local running club in Audubon and ran several marathons with a personal best of 3:00. But after volunteering for Ironman Louisville and watching a good friend compete, she became interested in the sport of triathlon. A year later, she signed up for Ironman Louisville and completed her first full IM in 11:01, finishing 5th in her age group. After this, she was hooked and since has completed several IM 70.3 events. She qualified for the 70.3 World Championship in 2015 after finishing 2nd overall female at the Muncie 70.3 in a time of 4:37. Cara recently was the 18th place overall female, including Pro’s and 2nd overall female non-Pro in the 2016 Chattanooga 70.3 race with a time of 4:43.
Caras' past coaching experience includes coaching High School Cross Country and she was a Graduate Assistant Coach at WKU. Cara recently completed the USAT Level 1 Coaching Certification Program and would like to combine her background and skills in running, triathlon, run gait video analysis and Physical Therapy to help athletes of all skill levels exceed their individual goals.
BarryS Coaching is honored to have Cara working alongside their USAT certified team of skilled coaches.
